SUMMARY:Program: The Ecology and Conservation of Burrowing Owls in Southern California
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a wonderful Program.\nFrom 6:30-7:00\, a social gathering with snacks\, and the presentation begins at 7:00. \nColleen Wisinski serves the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance as a Conservation Program\nSpecialist in Recovery Ecology. In this role\, she has worked with golden eagles\nand cactus wrens and is currently the field team leader for the burrowing owl program.\nShe is interested in conservation biology\, population dynamics\, and habitat use of birds.\nColleen’s main research focus is the ecology and conservation of burrowing owls in\nSouthern California\, particularly the breeding population of burrowing owls in San\nDiego County. She is responsible for overseeing the field team\, managing and analyzing\nthe data\, and working with colleagues to make recommendations about management of\nthe species to local land and wildlife managers. Using direct observations\, camera traps\,\nGPS transmitters\, and color banding\, she and the team are learning about survival\,\nreproduction\, and movement of the owls in the region. One of Colleen’s favorite parts of\nthe project is capturing\, banding\, and blood-sampling the owls for genetic analysis. \nThe location is the Remington Club II in Rancho Bernardo:\n16925 Hierba Dr\nSan Diego\, CA 92128 \nPlease note that the address is for the entire complex\, and there are two main entrances.  The entrance for the building in which we meet is the building to the east of Carver’s Steak House   (to the right if you are looking at the steakhouse). There is a circular driveway and a covered walkway in front of the main door.\nGo in the main door and up the stairs (elevator available); our meeting room is then immediately to the left.\n\nIf you prefer GPS coordinates\, the doors to enter are here: 33.02192834721937\, -117.07179724040994
