(S-1) approx. 5.3 miles to the Mile 19 Marker and Meadows Information Kiosk. There is street parking along Sunrise Highway\, but an Adventure Pass is required and must be purchased ahead of time. However\, there is free parking .2 miles before the pullout along Sunrise Highway. \nThe Forest Service Adventure Pass ($5) is available locally in San Diego County at major sporting goods stores and at other areas in the Lagunas. Turn right on Pine Hill Road and drive south for 2 miles to Frisius Road. Turn left (east) onto Frisius Road\, and drive another 2 miles to the park entrance. We will meet in the parking lot. \nWilliam Heise County Park has public parking\, but there is a $5 parking fee (free with a senior County pass). \nWe will also drive to Santa Ysabel Mission to look for orioles and other spring/summer migrants. \nBring a lunch for an after-birding picnic at the mission. \nExpect warm weather.

Continue west on North River Rd. to the entrance gate at the end. \nNOTE: The caretaker has offered to have the gate open at 7:30 am for Early Birds and leave it open until 8:45 to accommodate latecomers. \nFrom the gate\, proceed straight ahead on the less-traveled road to the Sanctuary. Disregard the “No Trespassing” Signs. \nFor those interested in lunch\, we will be dining at “The Pitstop”\, located beside the police station\, at 3825 Mission Avenue\, Oceanside 92058\, just a couple of blocks west of Douglas Drive. Park along Cita Ave. Since the Felicita County Park main parking lot doesn’t open until 9:30 am\, we will park along Cita Ave\, and as a group\, we will walk into the Park as pedestrians. Then turn left onto the Sunrise Hwy and travel north for 13.8 miles to the Penny Pines & Big Laguna Trail parking area (it is a about a mile past the Laguna Campground). An Adventure Pass is required and must be purchased ahead of time (a National Parks Pass is valid as an Adventure Pass). \nThis walk is through a pine forest and around Laguna Meadows and Lake (if there is still water in it). It will start at the Penny Pines Interpretive Trail/BLT trailhead (Big Laguna Trail). The trail is fairly level but can be somewhat rutted.  The Forest Service Adventure Pass is required. Make a slight left at Sunset Cliffs Blvd. and then stay in the right lane. Turn right onto W. Point Loma Blvd. and then right at Bacon St. Drive straight ahead to the Robb Field parking area near the tennis courts at the east end. We will also visit the nearby San Diego River Flood Control Channel (Mission Bay Pkwy & Old Sea World Drive) or Famosa Slough (West Point Loma Blvd & Famosa Blvd.) \nPlease note: Summer birding can be very warm. Turn right on Glen Ridge Road and proceed approximately 1 mile east to the cemetery gate. After entry\, turn left to the parking area.

DESCRIPTION:GPS: 33.166371\, -116.997465\nRating:  Moderate\nBathroom: Porta-potty in the parking lot and another further down the trail\n \nBirders will follow the southern and eastern shoreline of Lake Wohlford from the parking lot on Oakvale Road. Bald Eagles and Ospreys might be seen among the resident birds\, along with fall and early winter visitors \nDirections: To get to Lake Wohlford from Escondido\, travel east on Valley Parkway. At Washington Avenue\, Valley Parkway becomes Valley Center Road. Continue another 0.8 mile to Lake Wohlford Road and turn right. Drive 1.9 miles uphill to Oakvale Road\, and it’s again on the right. Drive 0.7 miles on Oakvale Road (Note: this road may be under construction) to a gated dirt road on the left\, which leads to our parking area for public access to the south shore of Lake Wohlford. \nLearn more about Lake Wolford.
