Please bring a spotting scope if you have one.\nDirections:\nTake I-15 south to I-8. Go west on I-8 and exit north on I-5. Take the first off-ramp\, Sea World Drive west to South Shores Park Drive (stop light). Turn left and proceed to our meeting place along the frontage road adjacent to the Flood Control Channel.\nOur second stop is Famosa Slough at the 4200 block of W Point Loma Blvd\, past the intersection with Famosa Blvd.  Turn left onto Sea World Dr and keep left onto the bridge across the channel.  Once you cross the bridge\, keep left onto Nimitz Blvd and left onto W Point Loma Blvd.  Park on the street and meet on the trail on the south side of W Point Loma Blvd.

Driving east on I-8\, and after Pine Valley\, look for signs indicating the Sunrise Highway Exit and Laguna Mountain Recreation Area.  Go north on Sunrise Hwy. (S-1) approx. 5.3 miles to the Mile 19 Marker and Meadows Information Kiosk. There is street parking along Sunrise Highway\, but an Adventure Pass is required and must be purchased ahead of time. However\, there is free parking .2 miles before the pullout along Sunrise Highway. \nThere is a port-a-potty in the parking area. \nThe Forest Service Adventure Pass ($5) is available locally in San Diego County at major sporting goods stores and at other areas in the Lagunas. A National Park Pass is valid as well. \nExpect warm weather.

DESCRIPTION:This is an unofficial birding event to Old Survey Road on August 31st. Arrive at 7:50 AM so we can gather and be ready to enter at 8 AM when it opens. (south).  Continue a very short distance and meet at the dirt parking lot on your right just before the concrete bridge and next to the large “TJRV County Park” sign with the pond on the west side of Dairy Mart Road. We will also drive a short distance to the TJRV Park Headquarters (public restroom and bird feeders) and then visit the nearby Bird & Butterfly Gardens\, where we might see the elusive Black-throated Magpie Jay.\nNo restrooms at Dairy Mart Pond\, and the one at Bird & Butterfly is usually closed.\n

DESCRIPTION:GPS: 33.695584\,-118.046917\nRating:  Easy to Moderate (Flat dirt & paved walkways\, grass)\nBolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is the largest coastal salt marsh preserve in the Los Angeles/Orange County metropolitan region. Its 300 acres are a vital oasis for resident shorebirds and millions of migrating birds traveling between the Arctic and South America along the Pacific Flyway. At Huntington Central Park\, we will see locals and possibly vagrant migrants.\nWe will bird at the Reserve first and then drive to Huntington Central Park.\nBring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the Park picnic tables.\nDirections: Take I-5 north past San Juan Capistrano. Continue on I-5 to I-405. Take I-405 north (towards Long Beach). Exit on Warner Ave. West. Continue west approximately 6 miles to Pacific Coast Hwy. Turn left (south) and drive about 1 mile (making a U-turn) to the Reserve parking lot on the east side of Pacific Coast Hwy. It’s about 70 miles from Oceanside and should take about 75 minutes. Meet at the boardwalk entrance.\nPLAN ON ARRIVING EARLY. Bald Eagles and Ospreys might be seen\, among the resident birds along with fall and early winter visitors\nDirections:\nTo get to Lake Wohlford from Escondido\, travel east on Valley Parkway. At Washington Avenue\, Valley Parkway becomes Valley Center Road. Continue another 0.8 mile to Lake Wohlford Road and turn right. Drive 1.9 miles uphill to Oakvale Road\, and it’s again on the right. Drive 0.7 miles on Oakvale Road (Note: this road may be under construction) to a gated dirt road on the left\, which leads to our parking area for public access to the south shore of Lake Wohlford.\nLearn more about Lake Wolford.

DESCRIPTION:Escondido Christmas Bird Count \nThe Palomar Audubon Society would like to extend an invitation to all birders to participate in the annual Escondido Christmas Bird Count on Saturday\, December 27. The count circle incorporates mostly rural areas near Escondido\, Valley Center\, Ramona\, and Poway. Fantastic birding skills are not a requirement – an extra pair of eyes is always helpful. The after-birding compilation meeting will be held in the early afternoon at Kit Carson Park’s Tree Lake 1 Pavilion\, which is a covered picnic shelter (33.073277356458235\, -117.06333385796887). SUMMARY:Morro Bay Birding Adventure
DESCRIPTION:This Trip is currently full. \nContact DSWALKLEY@aol.com about being added to the waitlist.\n \nEveryone who attended our Morro Bay adventure two years ago will agree that it was an exciting and fun-filled excursion to see the many unique birds and other wildlife along the coastline of this beautiful part of our state! \nThe guide for this trip will be Gjon Hazard\, accompanied by his wife\, Barbara. Participants are in for a real treat\, with Gjon as our guide! He will thoroughly research the hotspots and take us to the exact locations for the best viewing of our target birds. I guarantee you will not be disappointed! \nOnce again\, we will stay three nights at the Ascot Suites\, which has a room for gathering prior to dinner for our happy hour\, and also for the complimentary breakfast. Doug Walkley is the organizer for this trip\, and he has set aside a block of rooms here\, at a group rate. Currently\, the group rate for a king-sized room is $137. Once confirmed for the trip\, participants will be responsible for booking their own rooms. \nWe will meet each night for dinner as a group\, with each of us responsible for our own meals and beverages. The restaurants and addresses will be available at a later date. \nThis trip is open only to PAS members. The cost per person is $160. Lots of birds.  There are restrooms at the start and porta-potties along the route.\nBring a lunch for an after-walk picnic.   Always a PAS favorite!\nDirections:\nFrom San Diego County\, take I-15 north through Temecula and take the I-215. Continue north on the I-215.  Exit at the Ramona Expressway right (east).  Continue east to Lakeview (a small town). In recent years\, his travels have taken him mostly to Central and South America. From I-5 north exit east on Hwy 76 and continue to the Douglas Drive exit. Take Douglas Drive north approximately 1 mile and turn left on North River Road. Continue west on North River Rd. to the entrance gate at the end.\nNOTE: The caretaker has again offered to have the gate open at 7:30 am for Early Birds and leave it open until 8:45 to accommodate latecomers.\nFrom the gate proceed straight ahead on the less traveled road to the Sanctuary. Disregard the “No Trespassing” Signs.\nFor those interested in lunch\, we will be dining at “The Pitstop”\, located beside the police station\, at 3825 Mission Avenue\, Oceanside 92058\, just a couple of blocks west of Douglas Drive.
