Despite temperatures ranging from the low 30’s to mid 80’s, rain, wind and snow, our group of 15 birders were able to find a total of 128 species. Highlights included dancing sage grouse, close looks at both male and female sooty grouse, calliope hummingbirds, a bank swallow colony,, 4 empids, gray-crowned rosy-finch. Whitney Portal, our final stop on Monday, produced a dipper and Townsend’s solitaire. Almost all participants got lifers. Many thanks to Mammoth birder Ken Wells who expertly led us on Saturday in the Mammoth area, as well as to wildlife biologist Sherri Lisius, who gave a wonderful talk on the Greater Sage Grouse on Friday afternoon!
