Hello Friends,
Today, Saturday, January 18th, 30 of us met to participate in our birding expedition to the Oak Hills Memorial Park in Escondido. It was a cold and still morning. Most of us were regular participants, we had some others that we don’t see so often. I did my regular introduction as did Linda. Expectations of this site are varied but we can agree that we usually find an Owl and some unusual sparrows. Expectations were met, it’s a benefit of having so many eyes, we found the Owl and the sparrows were numerous. A large flock of Cedar Waxwings was seen at the top of some leafless trees. Some of us who stayed too long, saw an approaching bird which I dismissed as a Turkey Vulture. Closer examination revealed that it was in fact, a Zone Tailed Hawk. We have pictures. Thank you all for coming. The photography is appreciated, and Steve was kind enough to compile our Ebird list. https://ebird.org/checklist/S209825668
See you next week at Kit Carson Park.
Take care,
Gerry and Linda Baade
