PAS Field Trip Report: Bolsa Chica & Huntington Beach Central Park

On Saturday, October 5th; 28 of us met at the Bolsa Chica Reserve in Huntington Beach to participate in our scheduled field trip. Linda and I especially enjoy this location, we walked and birded here when we lived here in the 80s.  It is good to have so many of you willing to make the drive and share it with us. My good friends from Irvine also chose to join us. Birds make or break any trip. We were fortunate to have some early American Wigeon, resident Mallards, and Blue Winged Teal (scarce but present). Shorebirds were abundant albeit tightly packed as the tide was high. Red Knot? We reported one. Huntington Central Park is a wonderful birding attraction and we walked it after a pleasant lunch break. I could not keep the group together as the photographers were too excited about Pin Tailed Wydahs and White Faced Ibises. Christina’s sharp eyes picked out the Great Horned Owl and a very well hidden Green Heron. I have attached the link for the eBird reports below. Thank you Steve Ellis for your diligence and willingness to dig out your phone for every Black Phoebe. LOL

Thanks, Gerry and Linda Baade
