PAS Field Trip Report: San Diego River

On Saturday, November 2nd, 26 birders gathered on the banks of the San Diego River to see what wintering birds might delight us.  We were treated with 56 different species of birds including a variety of ducks, herons/egrets, shorebirds, and others.  In particular, a Belted Kingfisher indulged us with great views.  We also saw a few terrestrial species including Horned Larks thanks to Richard taking us to a great spot to see them.  After scoping the river, we headed to Famosa Slough hoping to see a Tricolored Heron but we were charmed by a handsome Reddish Egret instead as well as a group of beautiful Black-necked Stilts and 34 other species of birds.  We also spent a bit of time watching an American Kestrel eat his lunch.  We had amazing photographers capture beautiful images of the birds and I encourage you to check out the eBird lists (Thanks Steve) to see those photos since I can only include a few here.
