PAS Field Trip Report: San Jacinto Wildlife Area

Eleven intrepid birders braved the cold, cloudy morning and muddy roads to get out to San Jacinto Wildlife Area. Davis Road had a narrow center lane that was relatively free of water and had only a thin layer of mud in a few spots. The road into the refuge was closed, as we expected, but the parking area was open. We were able to walk our entire normal route which was almost 6 miles, It quickly warmed up and turned into a beautiful sunny day. By the time we got back to the cars, the ranger had reopened all the roads, which was too late for us. Oh well, we got our workout for the day. We saw a good number of birds, 65 species, but missed a few that we usually get. All in all, it turned out to be a very nice day.
