Hi Good Friends,
On Saturday, March 1, thirty-five eager birders walked around  Santee Lakes Regional Park where we found 66 different bird species. It was a beautiful Spring day and everybody had a wonderful time.

There were lots of American Coots and Ring-necked Ducks. I think the best birds of the day were the Red-crown Amazon Parrots and always a birder’s favorite, the Belted Kingfisher.

Many thanks go out to Steve Ellis for keeping track of the birds we found, and also, our wonderful photographers. Checkout Steve’s eBird checklist:  ebird.org/checklist/S216149400
Thanks,

PAS Young Birders Club Field Trip Report,
Santee Lakes, March 1, 2025

The day couldn’t have been more perfect for the inaugural Young Birders Club Field Trip.  Eleven participated, as a group, we viewed 58 species.  We were greeted by a noisy flock of Red-crowned Amazon parrots and had the opportunity to see a female Vermilion flycatcher whom our youngest participant and first-time birder spotted.  The group also witnessed a Belted Kingfisher in action, swooping from his perch to capture a bluegill.  Many thanks to Gerry Baade for keeping track of our sightings and for spotting owl pellets under a tree which were most fascinating as we dissected their contents.  Also, appreciate the photographers present and look forward to their postings.

Looking forward to our next outing, details will be posted on the PAS website, Palomar Audubon.org.
