On Saturday, August 31, we met at the parking area for the Tijuana Slough and McCoy trail. We had a beautiful calm Summer morning with light breezes and scattered clouds to contend with. At first, we sought the Yellow-Crowned and Black-Crowned Night Herons at their previous perch behind the adjacent apartment buildings and sports fields. They were not to be seen. We found some crows, doves, and pigeons and saw an Osprey on a light pole. Its light pole nest gets larger every time I see it. We found some shorebirds, Ridgeway’s Rails, and Savannah Sparrows; the herons stayed distant from us but we saw them. The McCoy trail was a nice walk, the estuary was at what looked like peak tide so bird activity was mostly fly-bys..
Some of us walked the beach to the river mouth, I have attached two lists below Thank you for your participation. Thank you Steve for compiling our lists.
