PAS Field Trip Report: Whelan Lake

May be an image of hummingbird

The morning was cold, but warmed up just enough for the 23 enthusiastic birders that arrived for our walk. At the entrance we were able to see 2 continuing Solitary Sandpipers along with lots of Blue-winged & Cinnamon Teals in the overflowing canal. No Snipes with the high water. Along the lakeshore we had Common Gallinules and Wood Ducks. A few Northern Shovelers remained and lots of Ruddy Ducks started to bring out the ‘blue bills’. We found 2 active Anna’s Hummingbird nests and many of the regular winter birds. Numerous woodpeckers, hawks and phoebes were seen. As well were Blackbirds and Bluebirds.

Doug & Diane welcomed us back from the walk with their signature coffee and donut holes!

Thanks so much for joining us today!
