On November 3rd, a group of Palomar Audubon members took an unofficial field trip to the Old Survey Road 97 Trail which sits on the northwest side of the Ramona Grasslands. We hiked nearly 5 miles through grasslands, chaparral, and oak woodland for the chance to see Golden Eagles. We were not only treated with two Golden Eagles but saw numerous other raptors including White-tailed Kites and a Prairie Falcon and a total of 56 species. On the long dusty path back to our cars a Vesper Sparrow appeared as the cherry-on-top. Note: the Old Survey Road 97 Trail is only open to the public by special permit between mid-August to mid-November each year to protect the nesting Golden Eagles. Thanks to Steve for the list (https://ebird.org/checklist/S201326343) and our photographers for beautifully capturing the birds.
