Yesterday, May 7th, sixteen birders enjoyed a hike through Daley Ranch. We started off with cool, overcast weather and a nice breeze kept the walk enjoyable even when the sun came out and it warmed up later in the morning. We got to check out the new “drip” water feature that PAS installed up near the old ranch house and enjoy the birds that came in to that; it gave us good views of bathing Grosbeaks.
We logged a pretty substantial 52 species. We found several good migrants moving through, including good views of Warbling Vireo, Yellow Warbler, and some very nice views of some colorful Violet-green Swallows. Unfortunately, one of the best birds of the day, a singing Black-chinned Sparrow, was only seen by a few of us. We also got to hear a rare instance of a White-throated Swift singing.
