Lake Hodges Bernardo Bay Trip Report for November 11th Walk

Friends,

About 24 birders joined the walk on a beautiful sunny day.  The lake has been drained for dam repairs, which impacted our birding.  Our only view of water was a distained view of a sliver of water.  The only bird we normally see on the water was a few Great Egrets hunting for rodents. We had long stretches of the walk with no birds seen or heard.  We did get some nice, but quick views of Gnatcatchers.  We saw both the Blue-gray and California.  We saw 27 species and 117 individuals.  Last year we took a different and shorter trail and saw 33 species.  Until the dam is repaired, we probably should skip or change our normal route.

See the eBird report for details and many nice photos of birds seen.
