Below is my eBird report of the birds seen at La Jolla Cove on 10/19/2013 by approximately 20 Palomar Audubon Society members and friends.

In addition to the birds listed below, we spotted Blue, Fin, and Humpback Whales; Pacific Bottlenose and Common Dolphins; and California Sea lions, Elephant Seal and Harbor Seals.

And, in the “it ain’t over till it’s over category,” after we completed our tally, I walked through the park on my way back to my car.  There. perched in one of the low cedar trees, in the midst of all the workers around her, was a lovely Cooper’s Hawk.  Meanwhile, Stan and Caron spotted a really unexpected Sapsucker sailing over the ocean.

Finally, in a happy coincidence, my good friend and fellow Torrey Pines docent Herb Knüfken last night sent me a close-up photo of a jaeger he spotted perched on Torrey Pines beach on Saturday.  Stan Walens confirms that it was a Pomerine Jaeger.  I’ll try to post a copy of Herb’s photo on the Palomar Yahoo Groups site.
