PAS Field Trip Report: Felicita County Park

On Saturday, January 11, a group of about thirty-five birders participated in Palomar Audubon’s bird walk at Felicita County Park in Escondido. Felicita Park is a beautiful historic park listed on the National Register of Historic Places and offers a variety of habitats for birding with short trails throughout. Felicita Creek usually briskly flows through the park, but with our area’s current drought, water flow was not much more than a trickle. The trails were dry and dusty.

Although sunny, there was an abundance of shade in the morning due to the oak canopy, and this made temperatures chillier. It was quite quiet in many areas of the park, and we had to work hard to find 40 species. There were plenty of bluebirds and nice views of several phainopeplas.

Many thanks to all who joined the walk today, with special thanks to our photographers. It was an enjoyable day among friends. Please see our eBird checklist by clicking the link below or pasting it into your browser.  https://ebird.org/checklist/S208896583

Thank you.
