Today we had 30 or 32 intrepid birders choose to avoid the heat by joining us for the San Elijo Lagoon Rios Ave. bird walk. Despite being cooler than most of county the temperatures still felt warm and muggy which may explain the dwindling numbers as the walk went on (or they bailed to find the vireo!).
The Yellow-throated Vireo was also seen by some people on the Visitor’s Center side of the lagoon. The bird was seen as it has been previously along the elevated boardwalk aproximately 30 yards from the south end of the boardwalk, in the trees on the west side of the boardwalk. On Friday it was seen in the willows along the trail next to the main channel.
