Trip Report: Stonewall Mine, Lake Cuyamaca

Saturday, August 10, was a very warm, humid day for birding in the mountains! However, 15 enthusiastic birders endured the heat and were rewarded with several robust and cooling breezes, plus magnificent, panoramic views of gorgeous Lake Cuyamaca as we descended through the pine trees. We collected an impressive 54 species, the most notable being five species of warblers, the dependable wild turkeys, and an adult Bald Eagle. It was fun to observe a long row of Acorn Woodpeckers lined up on the railing of the bridge. At the conclusion of the bird walk, many of us stayed to enjoy a picnic lunch and the company of our birding friends. Thanks go to Steve Ellis for keeping and sharing our eBird list and to the photographers who captured some of the beauty we experienced today.
