Trip Report – Whelan Lake Bird Sanctuary, Oct 26, 2019

Below is the complete listing of the birds we saw today at Whelan Lake: 57 was the final total. NOT BAD! This compares favorably to last year’s count of 54 at almost the same date. Despite a terribly hot day, 23 birders ventured out to this pristine venue. The wonderful aspect of Whelan Lake is that depending on your energy level, from very little to a lot, you will all see birds. Just sitting at the picnic table you pick up most of the birds. The keeners can hike all the way around the lake, while others can tailor their loops depending on their mood. Our oldest birder today was 90 years old, so there you go, lots of years of birding left for all of us youngsters. As always, it was a convivial group that at times was hard to keep together, but, so what, everyone had a great time.
