PAS Field Trip Report: Lake Dixon

On Saturday, January 4, 2025, twenty-eight birders walked around Dixon
Lake in north Escondido. This was our first PAS field trip of the year.
Happy New Year! The weather was quite cool for most of the morning. We
found 38 different bird species. There were lots of American Coots,
Yellow-rumped Warblers, and Bushtits.

I think the best birds were the large covey of California Quail that we
found at the beginning of our walk, and later, the very active Blue-gray
Gnatcatchers were found in the chaparral near the Dixon Lake Dam.

Many thanks go out to Steve Ellis for keeping track of the birds  (https://ebird.org/checklist/S208040325) we
found, and also, our great photographers.

Breaking News!!!!!  They also saw a Juvenile Zone-tailed Hawk initially identified as a Red-tailed Hawk!
