On August 1, 2026, Linda and I led a group of 33 hopeful birders through our Guajome County Park in Oceanside, CA.

We had a fresh sunny morning, and we walked through a tree-shadowed ravine where we encountered a pair of Western Tanagers. Ash-throated Flycatchers and Swinhoe’s White-Eyes were well represented, as was a flock of 30 or so Munias.

The Lake was abundantly populated with Mallards and their offspring. Baby ducks are always a crowd pleaser.

Linda took a strong lead while I went back and picked up stragglers. Our walk was less productive in the heat of the morning sun, but we did encounter some California Gnatcatchers through our effort.
