On January 17th, twenty-two birders met at Lake Dixon for a fairly warm and breezy walk through the chaparral to the lake. The breeze (bordering on wind) made it difficult to spot birds, but with the keen eyes of the group, we managed to find 43 species of birds. That we got to see some excellent water birds, including a Green Heron, Western Grebes, Pie-billed Grebes, and some very majestic American White Pelicans. In the chaparral, we were treated to great views of Allen’s Hummingbirds, Wrentits, and Oak Titmice, along with other chaparral regulars. The cherry-on-top of a delightful walk with friends was the Red-breasted Sapsucker spotted by Tsaiwei. Cherry-on-top is fitting because his head was lit up by the sun, looking like a cherry. Check out the list and fabulous photos on our eBird list, which Steve Ellis kept on our walk. https://ebird.org/checklist/S294827675
