On Saturday, December 13th, we found ourselves birding Lake Wohlford on opening day of trout season, but we weren’t impacted by the crowds. I think everyone found parking, and walking the route was unaffected. The day was beautiful and rewarding for us, and I hope for anglers as well. American White Pelicans and Double-crested Cormorants apparently got the memo about the trout stock. They were in abundance and seemed happy and content. No angry birds found!
Nineteen participants walked the south side of the lake along Egret Trail to the service road, out and back. We found about 52 species, which included a Teal/Shoveler hybrid. Temperatures started off in the high 50s and a little chilly in the shade, but warmed up nicely in the sun, ending close to 70°F.
Sally and John stopped by and dropped off Fuyu Persimmons before leaving for other Saturday commitments. This was a delightful surprise! Thank you all for making this walk enjoyable, educational, and good for the spirit. Many thanks go out to Steve for his expertise and quick sightings, Tsaiwei for her photography, and anyone else able to take pictures, Patrick for his scope support, and all our friends helping to contribute to the experience.

Another great day! Let’s do it again!
Thank you.
