Hello Bird Enthusiasts,
This morning, about 27 birders met at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido. This location is a well-established cemetery in the southeast part of town. Mature oaks and pines offer needed shade for birds and birders during the summer. We were lucky that weather conditions cooperated and temperatures were several degrees lower than the two or three days prior, which registered 90+ degrees F.
We identified 39 species and counted 224 individuals. It appears that Western Bluebirds had a very productive breeding season. They seemed to be everywhere and we enjoyed every one we saw. There were many Lark Sparrows and the usual suspects, Acorn Woodpeckers and Mourning Doves. It was too early for any migratory ducks on the pond, and even the Mallard apparently found better opportunities.
The day was beautiful. The location was peaceful. The scenery was inspiring. The companionship was incredible. The birding was enjoyable. Let’s do it again!
Thank you all for your contributions, and special thanks to Jack, who gave us scope support, and those with cameras who document our beautiful sightings and enhance our experience.
