PAS Field Trip Report: Old Bonsall Golf Course

August 2, 2025.  What a day this turned out to be for thirty-two birders as they canvassed the dried-up old back-nine holes of the abandoned Moosa Creek Golf Course. The unique advantage to this almost desolate landscape is that it is trapped between Moosa Creek and the headwaters of the San Luis Rey River, providing good habitat for birds on either side.

Birders were immediately rewarded by one of the two Vermilion Flycatchers we saw. Steady, vigilant eyes poked and prodded around every interesting nook and cranny to reveal, come the end of our walk, forty-six species. Should you wish the view the complete list, click here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S264563529

It was a very enthusiastic and educated group of birders, and it was a joy the lead them.
Keep on Birding,
Doug Walkley
