PAS Field Trip Report: Whelan Lake

July 26th, 2025. On a beautiful day at the lake, we had 40+ birding enthusiasts show up. We had views of all the egrets and herons right away. Mostly mallards and Ruddy Ducks with a few grebes and Wood Ducks. The complete list is attached below. Walking towards the west, we had views of Blue Grosbeaks, Nuttall’s Woodpeckers, Red-tailed Hawks, and lots of Hummingbirds. Once we ventured east, we had great views of a Peregrine Falcon, 4 Caspian Terns, and lots of Lesser Goldfinches.
