On June 28, 2025, twenty-five eager participants, some newbies and first-time visitors to the Park, had a beautiful sunny day from the morning greeting of a lone turkey in the meadow to the picnic at Silvercrest, where the birds were easy to see and abundant. The mosquitoes were not that bad on the trail, but not that good for some of us—the sweet ones. The 500-year-old Incense Cedar in the middle of the Nature Trail is showing its age. Every year, there is less greenery, and it is only at the very top of the massive tree.
Thank you, Mary Jo, for doing the three eBird lists. And thank you, photographers, for making the reports that much more interesting. In the Silvercrest Picnic area list, the caterpillar is a Monarch, the plant Kotolo milkweed (Asclepias eriocarpa) or Woolly-pod Milkweed, the bee, a Western Honey Bee, I think.
Happy birding,
Sally Sanderson
