PAS Field Trip Report: Tijuana Estuary

On June 14th, fifteen birder enthusiasts enjoyed observing 39 bird species at the Tijuana Estuary. Highlights included extended views of a Blue Grosbeak and Gull-billed Terns, along with multiple Yellow-crowned Night Herons and Ridgway’s Rails. Afterwards, seven of us continued to Seacoast Drive, where we spotted nesting Least Terns and Snowy Plovers. Along the way, we encountered a variety of shorebirds, Western and Heermann’s Gulls, and watched a pair of Gull-billed Terns fishing in the shallows. We also saw Elegant, Caspian, and Royal Terns, as well as the targeted species.

Many thanks to Steve Ellis for maintaining the checklist and to the talented photographers who captured the day. Please enjoy our eBird lists with photos: https://ebird.org/checklist/S250433573 and https://ebird.org/checklist/S250350956
