Hello Friends. On Saturday, September 20, 2025, twenty-three of us met at the visitor center parking lot for our PAS-scheduled field trip at Tijuana Slough.
Linda and I were pleased at the turnout, and I suggested that this time we alter our usual course and take a different path. First, we walked out on the short peninsula. We did not to see many Ridgeways Rails, but we certainly heard them. A Yellow-Crowned Night Heron sat by the stream as if he were expecting us. Rarities were seen. Green-tailed Towhees (2) came out of the undergrowth, and some of us got pictures.
We met again at Seacoast Drive to walk down the beach. The tide was high, and the state parks organization had volunteers picking up refuse. The demise of a sea lion lay on the sand like a Halloween decoration. Shore birds, we saw plenty of. Sanderlings and Willets were the main characters; a Ruddy Turnstone revealed itself to us. The group that managed to walk to the end was rewarded with a viewing of Snowy Plovers.
Look at our eBird lists, which I have attached below.
Thank you for allowing us to lead at this remarkable birding site.
