On Saturday, March 7, eighteen birders walked around the San Joaquin Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary in the city of Irvine, in Orange County. The weather was warm and windy, so not as many bird species were found this year. 56 different bird species were found this time.
There were lots of Northern Shovelers, Canada Geese, & American Coots. The best bird of the day was the flyover of the Swainson’s Hawk. This bird is uncommon at this location.
Many thanks go out to Steve Ellis for keeping the list of the birds that were found, as well as thanks also go out to our wonderful photographers and the walk leader, Jennifer Falconer. Here is Steve’s checklist:Â https://ebird.org/checklist/S3
Thanks,
