PAS Field Trip Report: Batiquitos Lagoon

Our Batiquitos Lagoon Field trip on January 24th was popular.  Thirty-eight birders were ready to participate, some new faces.  I thought it was cold out, as did many of us, clear air with little wind and cloudy skies.  Our first stop yielded a Eurasian American cross Wigeon, which was recognized but not without verification. Ducks and shorebirds were our mainstay, some passerines participated from the shrubs and trees, and a beautiful American Kestrel made several appearances. The golf pond had nothing new, but the farm land at the end of the trail yielded a pretty male Vermillion Flycatcher. I have included our eBird list at the bottom of the page. Thank you for allowing me to lead at this pleasant birding location. Thanks, Steve, for compiling the eBird list and for finding so many birds, and thanks to all our photographers (webpage editor’s note: The photos are stunning!).
