PAS Field Trip Report: San Elijo Lagoon

Hi Everybody,

On Saturday, January 31, thirty-one birders walked all the way around San Elijo Lagoon in Solana Beach. And we found 83 different bird species. This was the first time that our group had walked the entire Lagoon trail (3.3 miles), and it took over 5 hours.

The coastal weather was perfect, and the wintertime is great for finding a lot of duck species.

Many thanks go out to Steve Ellis for leading the field trip, and also for keeping our list of birds found. Also, thanks go out to our wonderful photographers.

Here is Steve’s checklist:  ebird.org/checklist/S297315670. Click on the > symbol with the Clark’s Grebe photos as well as the Great Blue Heron photos to see a short video of the two birds.

Thanks,
Jim Beckman
