Six hardy birders showed up despite the heat warnings and were rewarded with great views of Swainson’s Hawks circling overhead and sitting in a field. The morning was really quite nice as it didn’t get hot until about 10 AM. After watching 20-something hawks fly over, a few of us went over to the Borrego Springs settling ponds and were treated to a Harris’ Hawk flying low overhead. By 11 AM, the heat convinced us to head home.
Still, for the desert, it was a very good day.
