On August 30th, 33 bird watchers, ranging from brand-new birders to seasoned experts, joined together for a field trip to Guajome Park. Over the course of a little more than a mile, the group observed an impressive 44 species. A highlight of the morning was spotting the endangered California Gnatcatcher in the coastal sage habitat—an area currently under threat from proposed development (learn more at guardguajome.org). In addition to our walk along the coastal sage scrub and riparian habitats, we visited the lake where we were treated to views of a variety of species, including a Forster’s Tern actively hunting over the water. An added bonus were the treats provided by Diane Walkley at our halfway point. Many thanks to Diane.
Happy Birding,
Beth
