On 9/27/2025, twenty-seven of us met to execute our PAS-scheduled La Jolla field trip.
This site is popular and holds a wealth of birding engagement for us. Stan Whalen met us onsite to help us parse the differences and nuances of gull development. Western Gulls, Heerman’s Gulls, and a lone American Herring Gull lent themselves well to this endeavor. Stan’s scope was pointed to an offshore wind break where many Black Vented Shearwaters were flying by, well distant of the range of our binoculars. The differences between cormorants flying by were explained to us, and Stan held a pop quiz for whoever was close to him when one did. Some of us perused the trees and lawn behind the Bridge Club to obtain views and photos of some non-sea birds.
Thank you, photographers, the report is rich with your enhancement. Thank you, Steve Ellis, for compiling our EBIRD list, which is attached below.
Thank you to everyone who brought spotting scopes. Thank you for allowing us to lead your morning outing.
