PAS Field Trip Report: Lindo Lakes

On January 4th, 2026, Palomar Audubon visited Lindo Lake after our originally planned trip was rained out in December.  Twenty-six of us rang in the new year with 65 species of birds, a little drizzle, and a lot of good camaraderie.  In addition to seeing a wide diversity of birds, we also got great looks at some bird behavior, including a Red Tail catching a mole right in front of us and proceeding to devour the unlucky little guy. We were also excited to find a small flock of Tricolored Blackbirds and among the bouquet of warblers in the trees (for real, it is the collective known for a group of warblers), we found a Black-throated Green Warbler that was initially thought to be a Townsend’s, but Paul studied his photos and found it to be a rare winter visitor.  We are so lucky to have so many great photographers who capture the details. Please check out our eBird list compiled by Steve Ellis and admire the fabulous photos our talented photographers have added. https://ebird.org/checklist/S292253482
