On Saturday, August 15th, a nice gathering of 22 bird enthusiasts met up at San Elijo Lagoon for a stroll both to the east and then the west, although part of our group decided to keep it a bit shorter and did just the stroll to the west.  I think this was a great adjustment for folks who might like to keep things a bit shorter time and distance-wise; I hope we will adopt similar options for walks in the future.  But I digress, we were there for the birds and were treated to 49 different species including some great peeps and the possibility of a rare peep that made us sharpen our ID skills. We were also delighted by some close looks at a California Thrasher signing from the top of a close bush.  As always, the friendly group was a highlight; there is something about birds and nature that brings out the best in people.  Check out our species list, that Steve put together and the stunning photos our talented photographers added.
