San Jacinto Wildlife Area Trip Report

Hi, Birders,

Yesterday proved to be another great day at SJWA. This was a first time visit for some of our participants and they racked up a number of life birds including Rock Wren, American Bittern, Sora, Virginia Rail, Wilson’s Snipe and Vermillion Flycatcher. Maybe more. And excellent views of most, although the snipe played hide and seek with us, mostly hide.

There were numerous flyovers of White-faced Ibis and ducks, no gulls or eagles, but a flock of 15 white pelicans flew high in the sky circling over us eliciting quite a few oohs and aahs from the birders below.

A strong and chilling wind picked up around 10 but didn’t deter anybody from continuing to the lakes.

Thank you for helping find the birds and a big thank you to Steve Ellis for compiling the list on eBird:

Good birding,
